After their popular dubsmash, the makers of the Kannada version of Jigarthanda have gone ahead with another unconventional way to promote their film. By playing cricket.

They have used every opportunity of the prevailing cricket fervour by holding a cricket tournament in various colleges. Around 120 teams participated in the Jigarthanda Cup, which was played in the last 25 days. The final was played on Tuesday and the winner took away the cup and a cash prize of ` 25,000. The team also got an opportunity to play with the actors and crew members of Jigarthanda with Ravi Shankar, Chikkanna and Rahul participating in the match along with the technicians of the film.

Interestingly, the tournament had a Jigarthanda theme, with the ball, bat, wickets, T-shirts, energy drink and every possible item, sporting the logo of the film. Commenting on the idea, the film’s lead actor, Rahul said, “Holding an MBA in marketing, I never wanted to promote the film in a regular way. So after dubsmash, which clicked well, we thought of cricket. It was more of a team idea.”

The tournament indeed helped the makers to reach out to many youngsters and a lot of college students got to know of the film. “It was more of creating awareness and a different way of promoting our film,” he added.

The film produced by SRV Productions in association with Kichcha Creations is a remake of the Tamil film of the same name. While Rahul is the hero, the film has Ravi Shankar, Chikkanna, and Samyukta Hornad in the star cast. “We have planned for an audio release soon,” Rahul revealed.
