Vedhika is a south Indian actress who has only done better with each film. The actress, who was part of the 2016 blockbuster Shivalinga, is back in Kannada with another interesting subject. Titled Gowdru Hotel, the film is a remake of the Malayalam hit Ustad Hotel, with the Kannada version directed by P Kumar.
Along with Vedhika, the film will feature Prakash Rai and debutant Rachan Chandra. Vedhika, in a conversation with City Express, says that it was the script and the team that won her over.
“This is going to be a fresh new movie for the Kannada audience and will not be the regular run-of-the-mill stories,” says Vedhika, adding, “I could have done five more successful films after Shivalinga, but I chose to wait for a good one. I picked Kanneshwara with Upendra and now Gowdru Hotel.”
While Vedhika is thrilled to be working with Prakash Rai, she is also equally happy to know that music director Yuvan Shankar Raja is making his Sandalwood debut with Gowdru Hotel.
Even though Gowdru Hotel is a remake, Vedhika says that there will be many changes made in the script with the director creating more screen space for the heroine. “They didn’t want to waste me in the movie,” she says. “I had seen the Malayalam version and I knew the limited role the actress had in the film. But Kumar wanted to extend my role.”
She hastens to add that, for her, it is never about the screen space and does not expect the film to revolve around her character. “Fortunately I had a lot of work in Shivalinga,” she says. “Even in the past, I have picked only performance-oriented roles. With experience, I have realised that doing glamourous roles is easy... If I do the same characters over and over again, which I did in the beginning, it won’t help my career. Now I want to experiment with different scripts.”
