Quite the animal lover, actor Darshan has been vocal about protecting wildlife and sustaining forests. Which is why the Karnataka Forest Department has roped in the actor to spread awareness on tree planting and preserving the environment.

Today, the actor will release a video shot by him over the weekend with the overarching theme:  'Come let's get together and save the environment'. "Being an ardent animal lover, I have rared pets at my farmhouse over the last 13 years. But this year, I am making sure that my farmhouse is like a green belt. I have purchased around 1,800 saplings of different types, and along with my team, I have started planting them. This is my contribution towards saving the environment. It's something that I started even before the Forest Department roped me for the green initiative," says Darshan, who strongly feels that preserving the environment will be the perfect gift to the next generation.

His hope is that a day will not dawn when future generations will only know about the environment through book and pictures."I just hope that we will not come to a stage when children will read about animals such as tigers and elephants, and trees, that existed only in books. In fact, we are already getting there. Day by day,  flora and fauna species being wiped out. There are a few species that we are already reading about only in books. And the only reason for this is environmental destruction," he says.

While Darshan will be associating with the Forest Department on various initiatives, his personal message to the public is, "Saving the environment is not just for the sake of World Environment Day. Instead, planting trees should be a basic instinct in people. With the monsoon just about to begin, just go out and plant two to three saplings of your choice, and you will be happy to leave something for future generations," he says. Darshan leaves us with one thought — come fall in love with the environment.
