Film:Baagyada Balegaara (Kannada) Cast: Shivarajkumar, Navya Nair, Adi Lokesh, Doddanna, Sadhu Kokila, Padma Vasanthi, Sudharani, Anu Prabhakar, Suresh Chandra Director: Om Saiprakash
Director Om Saiprakash and hattrick hero Shivarajkumar are known for successful films. Their films ‘Thavarige Baa Thangi’ and ‘Anna Thangi’ were huge hits, and their latest release, ‘Baagyada Balegaara’, was expected to be at par with their earlier films. However, it falls flat from the beginning and only gains some momentum during the postintermission session.
Shivarajkumar without proper makeup does not work well wither. We understand that he plays the role of a bangle seller and his character is from a poor family and is burdened by responsibilities, but it doesn’t follow that he should be sans make-up.
The other drawback of the film is the lack of crisp screenplay and editing.
However, there are few consolations, like the dancing skills of Navya Nair, with her great ability to twirl. It is also nice to see Anu Prabhakar and Sudharani along with Shivarajkumar. While Anu Prabhakar has acted with him in ‘Hrudaya Hrudaya’, Sudharani played the heroine in ‘Ratha Sapthami’ more than a decade ago.
The few comedy sequences of Doddanna and Sadhu Kokila redeems the film a little.
Both of them try to give the much needed break to the audience. Sadhu Kokila’s attempts to imitate superstar Rajanikant make the audience, bred by monotonous narration and outdated sequences, get a few laughs.
The story is about Chennaiah alias Balegaara Chennaiah (Shivarajkumar). He lives with his stepmother. He postpones his marriage with an intention to earn sufficient money to clear his father’s debt. Meanwhile, he happens to meet Cheluvi (Navya Nair) at a betrothal function.
They fall in love. While Chennaiah is all set to marry Cheluvi, her brother has other ideas. While Chennaiah’s stepmother wants him to marry a girl from an affluent family, Cheluvi’s brother wants her to marry an MLA’s son. At this juncture, the director introduces many twists and turns. In the end, the movie does not create an impact.
