Odipolama

yet another star kid tries his luck in tinsel town. Parimal, the younger sibling of actress Sangeeta ( Uyir ), debuts as a hero in 'Odipolama'. With his boy-nextdoor looks, and the innocence he exudes, Parimal fits comfortably in the role of a youth who experiences the first flush of love, and goes all out to get his girl. It’s a simple script with a straight narrative style, sans any lavish trappings or frills. Its about Visu who falls for Anjali at first sight, and makes his move to get closer to her. He even manipulates his mother (the scenes a tad juvenile here) into shifting to Anjali’s neighbourhood. He strikes a friendship with the easy going girl, who is amused at his attempts to impress her with his loud talk. But to Visu’s consternation, enters a new player in the scene - Anjali’s handsome cousin Vijay (Raja Sridhar), who to put an end to the ongoing family feud, suggests that Anjali marry him and give the ideal solution. Anjali consents to this. The bonding between Anjali and her cousin or his family is never really depicted, so her prompt acceptance of his proposal lacks conviction.

With Anjali’s father groom-hunting for her, Vijay hatches a plan to force her father into getting them married. But Visu who comes to know of this, isn’t about to give up so easily. With Visu’s moves that gets him in closer proximity to Anjali, the girl now finds herself in a dilemma choosing between the two men.

Youthful and breezy with its light touches, it’s the little twists in the screenplay that keep it going.

The second half follows on predictable lines. Rahasya’s hot item number, and Visu’s fight scene at Ooty where the story shifts, seem like futile attempts by the director to add more fizz to his narration. Though undoubtedly talented, Sandhya’s recent performances however lack the spontaneity of her earlier films.

She sure needs a total makeover.

Overall, 'Odipolama' is a promising effort from a debutant filmmaker.
