Director- Madhumita
Cast- Karthik Kumar, Shikha, Jairam, MS Bhasker, Delhi Ganesh, VS Raghavan, Crazy Mohan
After tackling the issue of marital discord in her debut 'Vallamai Thaarayo' , Madhumita has opted for a fluffy light-hearted entertainer.
'Kola Kolaya Mundhirika' depicts the comic escapades of a bunch of people who are in search of missing diamonds.
The diamonds are apparently hidden in the cushion of a chair that belonged to a Zameendar’s family. In a shootout by an avaricious relative, the couple gets killed and their only child goes missing, and the furniture gets transported out of the bungalow. And twenty years later, the hunt for the chair with the diamonds begin. In the fray are the con-couple Krish and Veni (Karthik, Shikha). The duo joins hands to hunt for the diamonds. The greedy relative (Anandraj) is back too, while two criminals jump prison for it. There is the bumbling braggart cop Matrubhutham (Jairam, not at his best here), who is after a hidden chip that would help expose some illegal money dealings.
He believes it is in the chair used by a dada (Radharavi). And finally there is the Mumbai-based enigmatic antique chair dealer (Sarath Kumar in a cameo). The ending springs a surprise when the identity of the lost progeny is revealed.
Karthik Kumar revels in his role, his first in the comic genre, his body language and expressions are apt. Debutante Shikha assays her role confidently and the duo shares an engaging chemistry. The script may have seemed good on paper, but doesn’t quite work out on screen.
Crazy Mohan’s laugh-a-minute one-liners, repartee and play with words seem repetitive from his earlier works. The humour too seems more forced than spontaneous here. Fun at times, bland and juvenile at others, the film may not have many highs. But it’s a squeaky clean entertainer, that a family wouldn’t feel embarrassed sitting and watching together.
