YOU have seen his lovelorn traipse in a couple of films and some others had him as the vilest of villains. Now the actor will have four varied screen avatars playing one of the solidest roles in his career.

In his latest flick Nallavan, Jayasurya will don multiple getups giving life to his character Kocherukkan at different points of life. Nallavan in a way is the love story of the downtrodden as it chronicles the life of Kocherukkan and Malli, two domestic helps, who brave all odds to be with each other.

An unexpected and unfortunate turn of events lands Kocherukkan behind the bars and the film opens with his jailbreak.

"That does not mean the film is high on action. It's a sort of heady cocktail made of all the correct ingredients, be it action, humour or romance," says the actor.

Mythili is paired opposite Jayasurya to play Malli, the innocent and effervescent village belle.

"Another highlight of the film is the backdrop of a TamilMalayalam culture. My character's body language, sentiments and even violence is influenced and regulated by this intermixture," Jayasurya says.

Jayasurya sports those curly locks to play the first phase in the life of Kocherukkan as a lad just out of his teens.

But after the first jailbreak he bids goodbye to his soft and cute image, going into a ruffian mode with cropped hair and rugged looks.

The third and mature stage has him with thick whiskers and a drooping mustache. There are also some scenes in which the actor appears with a sparkling smooth head shave.

The film is also the launch pad for directorscript writer duo Aji John and Ajit Nambiar. "The highlight of the film is not just Jayasurya in four different getups, the storyline has a different angle to it, a nifty style and treatment you don't very often bump into," says Anil Mathew, producer of Nallavan.

Anil's first venture, Puthiyamugham, went on to become a smashing hit at the box office and the film launched Prithviraj as an unalloyed action hero.

"I expect something similar from my second film too," he adds.

The film also features a string of supporting stars, including Saikumar, Shammi Thilakan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salimkumar, Maniyanpilla Raju, Sudheesh, Bijukuttan, Jayan, Vanitha Krishnachandran and Sona Nair. The film is expected to hit the theatres next week.
