FILM: Avargalum Ivargalum

DIRECTOR: Veerapandyan

CAST: Vimal, Supraja, Satish, Aishwarya

The movie, Avargalum Ivargalum, follows the lives of two couples, Vallal-Vennila and Bharati-Shweta. They elope under similar circumstances, meet in Nagercoil and decide to stick together to give meaning to their lives.

Vennila, the pampered daughter of a village bigwig, is in love with Vallal, the local cobbler’s son.

And when their love is discovered, the duo (debutants Vimal and Supraja) had to run for their lives.

Similarly, Shweta (Aishwarya from the small screen), the neglected daughter of a business tycoon of Chennai, finds emotional anchor in Bharati (Satish), their driver. The duo prefers to elope than face the wrath of her father.

Bharati and Vallal find employment in a catering unit run by Charlie (a meaty role). But the past catches up and their lives takes an unexpected turn.

The debutant director (apprenticed with Agathyan) has laced his plot with a few twists and turns and steered his story in a direction we least expect. For instance, Vallal decides to raise the family status by taking up a course in leather technology and gets ready to go abroad with financial aid from Vennila’s family. Unfortunately, there his life takes an unexpected turn. Also appreciable are the episodes of Vallal and Shweta, who, having lost their dear ones, try to provide emotional solace to each other.

The inconsistency in the narration, the ambiguity in the scenes of Vallal and Shweta negate the impact of the positive elements.

The performances too could have been done with more finesse and consistency.

It is a plot with potential, had only the director made an effort to infuse some novelty in it. But inexperience comes in the way of executing his ideas on to the screen in a smooth and a convincing way.
