'Romeo' (Kannada)

Is it alright to lie for love?
'Romeo' (Kannada)

'Romeo' (Kannada)

Director: PC Shekar

Cast: Ganesh, Bhavana,

Savira sullu heli ondu maduve madu - Tell a thousand lies to get married. This is the message highlighted in 'Romeo', PC Shekar’s latest. An entertaining flick with witty dialogues, the story of Romeo revolves around Ganesha (Ganesh) who hails from a lower middle class family but portrays himself as a pompous rich brat. He shows a rich picture to win his love Shruti (Bhavana), who works as a Regional Manager in a bank where Ganesha works as an executive. Ganesha portrays himself on the lines of Ambani and Mallya and finally gets married to Shruti, against her father’s wishes.

The reality of Ganesha’s life is revealed on the very first day of their marriage when Shruti comes to his house. Not able to digest the fact that her husband lied all through, she gets back to her father’s place and files for a divorce, which is accepted by law.

Hurt by this, Ganesha  takes it as a challenge to become successful and finally becomes rich. But his heart still craves for Shruti, whom he meets again later in his life. Whether he will get back Shruti and live a happy life forms the second half of the film.

Ganesh has proved his potential as an actor and dancer. Though, he is more known as a lover boy, he has done a good job in the action sequences too. As for Bhavana, Romeo is her third film and she comes out as a charming and loveable lass with her girl next door role.

PC Shekar known as a technical director, has based the story on the middle class. But somewhere, trying to get the real aspects of life in the film, he has unconsciously sent several wrong messages - lying, drinking, driving without a helmet and talking on the mobile while riding, etc.

Somewhere,  Ganesh’s romantic touch is also missed. Avinash, Rangayana Raghu and Sadhu Kokila have done a good job with their witty act. Dialogues by Natraja is the highlight of the film. Arjun Janya’s music is good with melodious numbers like Alochane Aradhana. Two other peppy numbers are for the front benches.
