A remix of what we’ve seen in earlier mass entertainers, the film is mainly old wine in a new bottle.

Picking up an oft repeated plot, Suraaj has packaged it with all the routine ‘masala’ ingredients. Karthi plays the one-man-exterminator who sends a dozen armed villains toppling like nine pins, with the perfect nonchalance of a ‘mass’ hero. Revelling in the character of a small time crook who gets the chance to make some big money, Karthi goes through it all gleefully. His cheerful screen presence is the mainstay of the film. In such a scenario, the heroine has less to do. And Anushka is more of a graceful prop here.

The film opens on an exciting chase on a railway track where Anushka is chased by some rowdies. Running on top of the speeding train, leaping, flying and somersaulting with perfect balance, Karthi steps in for the rescue act. Much later we learn the background to the whole episode. Nothing new again. Its all about a couple of unscrupulous men (Milind, Suman) who want to push some harmful drugs into the country; and a bold Chief Minister who stood in the way. Meanwhile, it’s time for some comic relief. Santhanam gets a lot of space as the over protective brother of three sisters, and makes the most of it. The Karthi-Santhanam act here is at times exaggerated, and crude. But it does get some laughs.

It’s Manobala, however, who is the scene-stealer in the latter part. As the wiry framed ‘captain’ on a mission to rescue the kidnapped Ansuhka, the actor is hilarious. In an amusing touch here, the theme music of  ‘The good, The bad and The Ugly’ is played in the background. The location of the cabin in the woods where Anushka is held captive, is exotic and eye catching. But while the director has kept the narration fast paced in the earlier part, it’s a tad drawn out in the latter. It’s a predictable twist towards the end, and an expected climax. A remix of what we’ve seen in earlier mass entertainers, the film is mainly old wine in a new bottle. Alex Pandian doesn’t take himself too seriously. So there is no reason why we should!
