Poonam Pandey is now back on the screen with her first Telugu film, Malini & Co.
In the city to unveil the movie’s logo, the former Gladrags’ model shared that working with an experienced director like K Veeru, who gave us the hit film Aaropranam was a brilliant experience. “It was a great experience because I was surrounded by so many experienced people. When you are involved in a project like this and a great package comes out, it is exciting,” she said adding that people are going to see her in a different angle.
Director K Veeru pitches in to inform us that the film is a powerful, action-oriented film where Poonam plays the key role. “The backdrop of this story is terrorism. Keeping in mind, her fan following, we have designed the role in such a way that this new, performance-packed role will entertain the audience,” he said.
Poonam emphasised that performances of actors and the story cannot be defined in mere words. “You have to watch the film in order to understand the hard work that went into the film. I would love to see your reaction when you see me on the screen,” she laughed. “I am wearing a bikini, yes. But I am doing a lot more than that too,” she added. The actress made it clear that she is not here to compete with anyone. “Main abhi choti hun yaar (I’m still a small actor),” she laughed.
The 23-year-old who attributes her film offers to controversies surrounding her, shared she now wants to be known as an actress and not a controversial star. “I am known for controversies and I got a lot of offers because of that. But now, I want to do more than skin show something that has action and emotion,” she expressed.
The actress is happy to be part of the Tollywood family and said that though she got a lot of offers, she opted for Malini & Co. because of the script. “Here, movies are larger than life, that is another reason why I opted to act in this film,” she said adding that the songs in the film too are not just mere dancing numbers. “They all have a story to tell,” shared the confident model-turned-actor who doesn’t bother about people who object to her attitude.
“There is a lot of love out there for me. About the ones who don’t like me, it’s their problem. Not mine. Who cares?” she shrugged and smiled. On a parting note, when asked what is the one thing that she wants people to appreciate in her, she responded, “Do you really want me to answer this question?,” she laughed and added,” My mum will beat me up if I answer this. But you know what I am talking about,” she winked.
