Paramashiva's Decade-Old Village Story Doesn't Sell

While remakes are ruling the Sandalwood box office, Paramashiva, a rehash of the Tamil film Samudhiram, has fallen flat. The original that was released in 2001 was soon remade in Telugu. Whatever took the makers of the Kannada remake so long has resulted in the movie being a forced revisit of the old village theme at a time when filmmakers are coming up with interesting innovations.

The crux of Paramashiva remains same as the original. The starcast including Ravichandran, Vijay Raghavendra, Yashash and Sharanya constitutes the perfect family set-up.

Paramashiva is about three brothers – Shiva, Raghu and Shankar (Ravichandran, Vijay Raghavendra and Yashash) – who are very fond of their only sister Swati (Sharanya). At her wedding, they give all their wealth, including their house, to the groom Chandrashekar (Srujan Lokesh). The consequences that the family faces after Swati's marriage constitute the rest of the movie.

Ravichandran and the rest of the cast emote well and look convincing in their roles. Director Mahesh tries to bring in a twist in the tale by featuring Ravichandran in a dual role.

The actor also plays the father's role in the flashback that comes at the end of the second half. What is sad, however, is that even that doesn't save the movie.

Sharanya shines in her role as the precious little sister, while Sakshi Shivanand and Rekha don't have much to do in the film. V Harikrishna's music, though melodious, doesn't blend with the scenes.

Verdict: Paramashiva has hit the screens a decade too late. Those who loved Ravichandran in Drishya can skip this.
