The fact that TS Satyajit is the son of director, actor and scriptwriter TN Seetharam, automatically makes one expect a well-researched script from the latter’s first film. Sadly, Hingyake is a disappointment as there is absolutely nothing driving the plot or the actors in the film.  Set among the urban youth, the film doesn’t quite cut it for any kind of an audience. Further, the film’s major disadvantage lies in the performance of its less than enthusiastic actors who appear completely lifeless on screen.

Supposed to be a romantic comedy filled with humour, the film is the story of two youths, Deepak (Pratheek Thakkar) and Manoj (Sunil) who are trying to make a transition from carefree college days to a  working life. The duo who are close friends try to push their envelope in the realm of romance and try their luck dating girls both in college and later at their workplace. Whether they succeed in getting in achieving  their life goals or whether their dreams are crushed, form the crux of Hingyake. And although it is a common-enough story, its plotting and writing makes little sense.

Hingyake is a hastily attempted comedy drama by Satyajit, which has no central purpose or unifying idea. The film doesn’t make you laugh at any point. And even though there are many characters, yet the frames seem empty and characterless. While the audience cannot come to terms with the story, even Satyajit himself is  not very clear as to whose point of view the film espouses.

For the director, this film can be considered a good lesson in how not to make films. And just in case he wants to take another chance to connect with the audiences, it is better that he consults his father for advice only to make a good presentation.

More disappointing than the director is debutant actor Pratheek who plays the central protagonist and his terrible performance will definitely reinforce the fact that he should rethink films as a career option. Sunil who plays Pratheek’s friend could have done better provided his role was written better. Deepthi Mane and Kushi are among the other star cast members who definitely need acting tips. Even cameraman Surya Kanth and music director Nithin Kumar lack in their respective departments. Overall, Hingyake is a grave mistake and a complete waste of time and money. But for a few who bought tickets, the film seemed to help them to take a good two-hour nap. In fact, they were seen sleeping even as the end credits rolled. All I have to say is Hingayake? (Why it is like this?)
