Indeed a powerful start of the year for all the Pawan Kalyan fans. One of the most awaited movies of 2016 has finally hit the box office. When a PK fan watches the movies, the entry of the star is surely going to send out some adreline rush, while the non PK fans with have some inquisitiveness evoked in their brains to know how the movie is going to be. Like the tagline goes, it starts with guns, guts and love, for he comes with a gun, delivers a dialogue ‘Arrey nautanki, darr ke bare main kisko bola re, hum darr ka definition hai’, which implies his guts. Of course love comes after 10 minutes.

Pawan Kalyan in the film is an all-round superhero who knows all the genres of boxing and martial arts- a superhero in khaki dress with all his buttons open and a red towel around his neck. The movie begins with Sholay poster and junior PK’s love for the movie made him christine his name as Gabbar Singh, his guts makes him an inspector.  Sardar Gabbar Singh is transferred to the former princely state of Rattanpur where the lead antagonist Bhairon Singh (Sharad Kelkar), a feudal lord, is trying to take over the lands from the villagers by force. Here he meets Arshi (Kajal Agarwal), who finds herself in a helpless situation despite wanting to help the villagers. Even after living in the same village for ages, Bhairon notices Arshi only when inspector Sardar Gabbar Singh sets his foot in Rattanpur and decides on attaining her for her beauty. Unlike other films, here the lead actor fails regularly to impress Arshi’s guardian played by Mukesh Rishi. The movie is a three hour journey with bits and pieces of comedy, romance and drama and above all mind boggling guns, which is actually the show stopper. The slow motion panorama shots try to impress- succeeded or not is subjective.

Directed by K S Ravindra, better known as Bobby in the Telugu film industry, the movie also has Sanjana Galrani and Raai Lakshmi. Produced under the banner of Pawan Kalyan Creative Works and Northstar Entertainment, Devi Sri Prasad’s (DSP) songs are surely looks rehashed. The songs are not so appealing to be on rewind mode.

The movie has Brahmanandam, Urvashi, Tanikella Bharani, Ali, Posani, Brahmaji, Krishna Bhagwan among others. The movie is one of those conventional  good versus bad movie. This is the first time Kajal Agarwal is paired with Power Star Pawan Kalyan. Their on-screen chemistry is one factor that indicates that they could be the next big pair in Tollywood.

Despite having comedians like Brahmanadam, the humour in the movie couldn’t tickle the funny bone to a large extent. Kajal looks exceptionally good, giving bridal wear goals to the girls out there. The chocolate boy of Hindi soaps, Sharad’s voice wasn’t impactful as a villain and Pradeep Rawat, the man blessed with antagonist looks and voice was under-utilized by refraining him to a paralysed man, who is seeking revenge through his son.

The editing could have been better as there were sudden jumps of scenes and also a few gaffes like Raesh Talwar, a business tycoon gets injured on his forehead, when Bhairav’s men attack him and immediately in the next scene, the wound has vanished.

Apart from the item number, there is a romactic yet massy number shot in Swiss, which doesn’t go well with the movie, for Kajal is shown as the princess and princess dancing to massy song, is demeaning the stature and dignity. Of course in imaginations and movies, kings and queens can even do item numbers.

The royal palace, cars and location are treat to the eyes. The real heroes are the amazing guns shown in the film. A scene where PSPK rescues the heroine and storm away in a chariot with four horses and sun setting in the back ground is just a picture perfect moment. The story line loses its momentum at a lot of places. Though the movie might give orgasms to PSPK lovers, it will be below- the-belt to a normal movie watcher.

Pawan Kalyan imitating Chiranjeevi’s songs and dance movements explicitly proves that the brothers have resolved their differences and have patched up.

People planning to watch the movie will have to try their chances at the theatres as all the online tickets are sold out. Finally breaking the jinx after three years of hiatus, Pawan Kalyan is back with a bang for his fans (only). The 44-year-old actor has written the script and has also directed the screenplay for SGS. The last time Pawan Kalyan became the script writer and director of screenplay was in 2003 for his then megahit movie Johnny. SGS has been dubbed in Hindi and is released worldwide in 42 countries.

Bottom line: Strictly for PSPK fans.
