Nicole's is too chubby

A love story with the backdrop of parental opposition forms the core of this film. Here it’s the girl’s father, the defence minister, who is the spoke in the wheel. The early part moves at a steady pace, but the script takes a nosedive in the latter half. The director who has made an effort to present a glossy stylised look to his film, has not balanced it in the crafting of his script, and in etching his characters in a more convincing way.

The film has a lot of colour and richness, and some catchy locales. The songs by its debutant team (director Jayamurugan- Jeevan Thomas), are pleasant and far better than those of some seasoned composers. But all this cannot compensate for the  weak script. The motivation of some of the characters, and their actions are at times sans any sanity and sensibility. Jaiakash plays Vasan, a final year medical student, who falls for Nisha (debutant Nicole, could have done without all that puppy fat and chubbiness), and vice versa. Vasan’s parents are eminent doctors who run their own hospital.

A kidnap attempt on Nisha (the motive is ambiguous) results in her losing her mental balance. Music being the common bond between the couple, Vasan uses music therapy (he sings a song), that gets her back to normality.. Her father who had professed eternal gratitude to the family, does a volte face, and humiliates and rebuffs Vasan’s parents, when they come to him seeking Nisha’s hand for their son.

Ashish Vidyarthi goes overboard playing the politician-father, his whole demeanour and actions, looking more like that of a demented rowdy. Jaiakash has delivered whatever the role demanded of him. But unfortunately, it’s not a film that would boost his sagging career. The script goes haywire after the lovers elope chased by the minister’s security commandos. The latter too behave like goons of a thug, one of them demented enough to make a  rape attempt on Nisha. Some of the fight scenes between the minister and Vasan,, all those sweeping down from balconies, and the giant leaps up, seem straight out of some superman film. There’s more action when the lovers get caught by the earlier kidnapper. And through all this, there is humour, of the unintended variety.
