CHENNAI: It was a big surprise for Sangeetha, when she got a call from Kamal’s office. And when she finally met him at his office another surprise awaited for her — acting in his movie. “I’m a big fan of Kamal Haasan. I’ve been doing negative roles or essaying bold characters in films, till date. When Kamal sir told me that he was writing a script and he called me in person to see whether I would fit in a role, I felt like I was offered a treat. He said if everything was well, he would call me. After a few days I got a call from Red Giant Movies’ office,” says Sangeetha with a big smile.
“This is the first time I’ve attempted comedy in a film. My character, Deepa, is a stupid woman but she thinks herself as an intelligent one. There’s a small twist in the character towards the end. Manmadhan Ambu will be a big treat for Kamal sir’s fans. It’s been a while since he played a romantic hero. In this film he really looks a Kadhal Mannan. There’s both romance and comedy in this film,” explains the actress. The cast of Manmadhan Ambu did rehearsals before the commencement of the shooting. Talking about the experiences while rehearsing at Kamal’s office, the actress says, “We practised on voice modulation and on emoting well. We had a script reading session too. All these helped us while shooting. There was a time constraint during shooting, and as we rehearsed well we could perform better,” says the actress and adds, “Whenever a script was narrated to me I could immediately get into the character. But during rehearsals I told Kamal sir that I felt completely away from the character and that I was confused whether I could do comedy well. Gauthami was also there during rehearsals. She told me to listen to Kamal and that I could do well. Kamal sir guided me and I just tried to imitate him. All credit should go to the great actor.”
“I’ve worked with Madhavan earlier in Evano Oruvan. He is a good co-star to work with. He gives a lot of confidence and boosts you that you feel like flying high. Both Trisha and Madhavan are my good friends. Trisha is a fun-loving girl and I enjoyed working with her,” says the actress and adds that she too waits eagerly like any other Kamal’s fans for the release of Manmadhan Ambu, on Thursday.
