Fresh new face Gayathri seems to be having the time of her life in Kollywood. While her debut film 18 Vayasu directed Panneer Selvam, hit screens just a while ago, two of her other flicks — Naduvula Konja Pakkatha Kaanom (NKPK) and Ponmaalai Pozhudhu are ready to release back-to-back in October. “I can only call it my luck. Actually, the release dates of the films got delayed and now when all of them are lined up to release around the same time, it feels good,” says Gayathri.

You might wonder how she ended up being a part of a number of projects even before her first release, so Gayathri spills the beans. “To tell you the truth, my first film is yet to release. It’s called Yen Ippadi Mayakkinai directed by Krishna, who did Sillunu Oru Kaadhal before this. Ponmaalai Pozhudu director Durai was a co-director in Yen Ippadi Mayakkinai and I got my 18 Vayasu offer also through that film. Then NKPK happened,” explains Gayathri. She was so impressed with the story of NKPK that she wanted to take it up even if her character appears just before the climax.

Audiences will see her playing a cool girl in Ponmaalai Pozhudhu. “I play a school student in the film that deals with adolescent love. Adhav (the hero) and I are best friends in the film and later we fall in love. How our parents take this in and what happens later is what the film is about,” says Gayathri.

She has completed shooting for another film titled Mathappoo as well. “Nagaraj, who made Thinadhorum before, is directing the film and a newcomer Jayanth plays the hero. My character in this film is a little stubborn,” she smiles. Gayathri gives all the credit to director Krishna and says, “I didn’t even know what to do before the camera. So whatever I am today it’s only because of him,” and wishes that Yen Ippadi Mayakinai will also hit screens soon.
