CHENNAI: We’ve seen him attempt several classical dance styles in Salangai Oli, and try Bharatanatyam a decade ago in a song in Kadhala Kadhala. Now, Kamal Haasan will shake a leg for a full-fledged Kathak number that will be performed to Tamil lyrics in his upcoming movie, Viswaroopam. Three songs from the movie have been composed so far.
The Tamil song in this film is unique for it has been composed for a Kathak dance number, according to its music composer Shankar Mahadevan. Kathak exponent Birju Maharaj, who taught the actor this unique dancing style for over a month, has choreographed this song.
“We have finished three songs in the film, and are currently working on the background score,” said Shankar Mahadevan. Lyricist Vairamuthu said he has written four songs for the film.
Viswaroopam, directed by Kamal Haasan, stars Andrea, Shekar Kapur and model Pooja Kumar. It has been shot in Jordan and New York.
Talking to City Express on Kamal, Shankar said he was a living legend with whom one could talk about anything, from cinema to music. “He is very well-read, but remains humble. Viswaroopam is a dream project for all of us,” said the musician, who has composed tunes for the film with Ehsan and Loy.
