Jeyam Ravi's rigorous dance for 'Bhoologam'

Jeyam Ravi is one of the busy actors of Kollywood now with several projects in hand. While his Ameerin Adhi Bhagavan has just released, he has Nimirindhu Nil with director Samudrakani and Bhoologam with Kalyan Krishnan, a former screenplay writer and co-director of director S P Jananathan’s films.

Bhoologam, produced under Aascar Ravichandran’s banner, is 85 per cent complete. The film pairs actor Trisha with Jeyam Ravi, and the final schedule is slated to begin from March 20. Now, the buzz is high around one particular song in the film, which was shot four months ago. Apparently, Jeyam Ravi underwent a rigorous practice for three days for the song, which has religious overtones.

The song portrays a temple festival called Mayana Kollai, which is celebrated in certain shrines in Tamil Nadu and involves aggressive physical movements by the actor. According to local beliefs, the practice is undertaken when an aspirant has sought a boon.

Ravi plays a boxer in the film. The song comes at a crucial point in the film, when the hero is set to participate in a particular fight. Producer Aascar Ravichandran seems to have left no stone unturned to lend a touch of grandeur to his project and the song was shot in a giant set at the Mohan Studios at a cost of `1.5 crores in five days.

It is learnt that over one thousand junior artistes were hired to form the crowd witnessing Ravi’s dance movements. The song has lyrics by Vijay Saagar and has been sung by playback singer Mukesh. The dance moves were choreographed by Eswar Babu. Apparently, Ravi’s performance was so realistic that it was tough to tell that it was part of a film shoot and not a real festival. The actor bravely took in the heat and the large crowds, and displayed the aggressive expressions and emotions required for the scene.

The actor has undertaken a strict regimen to train in boxing for over six months for his role in Bhoologam. Actor Prakash Raj and Hollywood actor Nathan Jones of Troy-fame are also part of the film.
