CHENNAI: Actor Vishal, general secretary of Nadigar Sangam, has been suspended from the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) on Monday following his interview to a weekly against the Council's alleged inaction over piracy.

Apparently, he had told the magazine that the members weren't ready to discuss on curbing piracy. Instead, they were ready for a meeting if producers had some issues regarding payments with bhajji and bonda on their table.

This had irked the Council and a letter was sent to him on September 2, seeking an explanation. Not satisfied with his reply, the council passed a resolution, suspending him In a letter, TFPC said Vishal's actions could destroy unity among members.

Addressing the media, Vishal said he would face the issue legally and fight in the next TFPC election in January next. However, the actor added that he wasn't officially informed of the suspension. "I never got any suspension letter. I am surprised, not shocked, because a casual remark of 'bhajji and bonda' had been taken quite seriously. No one discussed with me before making the announcement. Yes, there had been differences in the past, but I don't know why I was removed."

He said the Nadigar Sangam would continue to cooperate with TFPC. "We need people with an open mind. Functioning of the Council isn't satisfactory. Also, I have raised the issue of piracy many times, and gave them evidence too. They never acted. Many producers are suffering today. Enhancing their income should be the priority," he insisted.

"My only concern is piracy. The entire film fraternity should come together and fight it. I am eagerly awaiting the Producers' Council election. I gave my voice for welfare of producers and I stand by it. My suspension isn't an issue here. Definitely, I can guarantee that there would be an opposition team to fight the elections. We have a team of youngsters who will face it. May that be conducted in a fair way," he added.

Taking to twitter, he wrote, "Well, got the news that I am suspended from the council as a member. Happy Children's Day. Will continue to fight for the producers and the industry."
