Janani Signs Tamil Film, Thollaikkatchi

Janani Iyer, who made her debut in the Tamil film industry with Bala’s Avan Ivan (2011) and then went on to impress audiences with her performance in several films including Thegidi (2014), has signed her next flick.

The actor will work next in a film titled Thollaikkatchi. Confirming the news to City Express from Hyderabad, where she is attending the IIFA awards ceremony, Janani says, “The film is being directed by Sadiq Khan, who was once an assistant director of Lingusamy and AR Murugadoss.  Ashwin plays the hero and I play the heroine in the film. It is based entirely in Pollachi.”

She says she chose the film because of her role. “It’s a comedy film and I play a village girl for the first time in my career. People haven’t seen me in such a role and I thought this film would be an ideal choice. Work on the film has already begun. I shot for a day and then had to come here for the IIFA awards. I will return to Pollachi to join the team.”

Apart from this film, Janani also has Ultaa and another Tamil film which she is on the verge of signing. In Malayalam, Janani has two films waiting for release. “One is Driver on Duty and the other is Mathuka. Both are scheduled to hit screens soon,” she says.
