Cinema still photographer 'National' Chelliah passes away

In the 1950s, he started his career as a photographer in AVM studios, and then went on to work in films like Sivaji Ganesan's Parasakthi. His first film was Missamma, directed by LV Prasad in 1955.

CHENNAI: Senior still photographer 'National' Chelliah, who has worked with Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and others in the film industry passed away on Saturday.

In the 1950s, he started his career as a photographer in AVM studios, and then went on to work in films like Sivaji Ganesan's Parasakthi. His first film as a still photographer was Missamma, directed by LV Prasad in 1955.

Some of his notable films include Puthu Puthu Arthangal, Sindhu Bhairavi and Mullum Malarum, among many others. Chelliah has worked with some of the leading directors, including K Balachander, Visu, SP Muthuraman and Rama Narayanan. He was also the president of the Still Photographers' Association between 1980 and 1990. In Tamil cinema, he has handled the cinematography for more than 700 films.
