VIJAYAWADA: The AP state government has announced on Wednesday Nandi awards for two years: 2012 and 2013.

The special effects film Eega, directed by S S Rajamouli, bagged the Golden Nandi Award for 2012, while Mirchi directed by Koratala Siva bagged the prestigious award for 2013.

The announcement was made by juries headed by actress Jayasudha and director Kodi Ramakrishna at the  Interim Government Complex, Velagapudi on Wednesday.

Jayasudha said selecting the awardees was a tough task.

The Nandi awards, the state government recognition given for excellence in Telugu cinema, theatre, and television annually since 1964, had not been presented since 2012, when the Telangana agitation was at its peak and resulted in the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the awards this year for the years 2012 and 2013.

The Telangana government, meanwhile has decided to present the awards with a different name, on the occasion of Ugadhi from this year.
