#1 MONEY HEIST (NETFLIX): The successful heist at the Royal Mint of Spain set the bar high for Money Heist (La Casa de Papel as it’s called in Spanish), and helped it become Netflix’s most popular non-English language series. The season four of the crime-thriller is about the second part of the heist at the Bank of Spain, the stakes are higher than ever.

Feminism continues to take centre stage in the show. In this male-dominated setting with little moralising, a woman proves she’s fearless and shows up the men. While some women are rebellious and don’t hesitate to throw a punch or two in the face of patriarchy, not all are strong-willed. Amid a tense heist, to see women co-existing with men and being their own persons, is admirable.

#4 MIRZAPUR 2 (AMAZON PRIME): When the first season hit Amazon Prime Video, it was bhaukaal indeed. The lack of censorship in the OTT space was milked to the maximum with a never- ending stream of gore, violence, sex, and profanity. It feels as if the makers got almost everything out of their system in that first season and have now resolved to use their freedom judiciously. (Photo | YouTube Screengrab)

It comes sparingly in a season that seems to be more about setting the stage for a hopefully more explosive season 3. New families and newer players are written into this season in an attempt to make Mirzapur a more expansive crime saga. Apart from the warring Pandits and Tripathis, we now have the Tyagis and Shuklas too joining the mix, with a liberal dose of collateral damage across the board.

“You have to wait and watch to know more about season two. I don’t want to divulge too much but let’s just say it’s quite possible. It’s too early to talk about it, but yes, if Amazon is willing to do it, definitely there will be a second season,” producer Anushka Sharma had earlier said.

According to Deadline, the third season was originally due to begin filming this month before lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic caused a delay in shooting. August is the latest they can reportedly restart production as the show is reliant on filming during the longer British summer days and the sunshine is an important part of its on-screen gloss.

#7 BREATHE: INTO THE SHADOWS (AMAZON PRIME): The new season ends up as a mindless hash of thriller clichés and sermons in pop psychology. The show’s definitely scaled up — with Abhishek Bachchan leading the charge in his digital debut. But the sedate, straight-shooting actor proves ill-fitted for the material, nodding off in the car and glowering silently from time to time.

Bolstered by Shankar- Ehsaan-Loy ’s dazzling soundtrack, the show celebrates Hindustani classical traditions while exploring its awkward transition into the modern world. As a music satire, it’s rife, self-aware and often funny. Yet, the investment in musical complexities is let down by the general writing, which is rickety to say the least.

#10 SPECIAL OPS (HOTSTAR): The series is centred on near-retirement R&AW officer Himmat Singh and his 19-year manhunt for a man that no one believes even exists. Despite having such an explosive premise, Special OPS has a rather tame start, which is somewhat similar to the opening scene of KGF Chapter 1.
