Journalist Gauri Lankesh's cold-blooded murder on 5th September 2017 raised the right questions about the sanctity of freedom of the press, part of fundamental right to speech and expression guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution. On 19th September, the SIT said that they could not find any evidence to establish the Naxalites' role in the killing, according to highly placed police sources.
