The Mumbai stampede that killed 22 commuters on Friday is not the first of its kind to cause casualties in the country. Recollecting a few tragedic stampedes from recent times...

Allahabad Kumbh Mela stampede, 2013:  29 women, 12 men, and an eight-year-old girl were killed when an overbridge collapse and a police lathi charge that followed caused a stampede in Allahabad railway station on 10 February 2013.  Allahabad was hosting the rotating Hindu festival of 'Kumbh Mela', and that year it was considered to be the year of 'Maha Kumbh Mela', which comes around only once every 144 years.
