HYDERABAD: Elimination of Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) in Greater Hyderabad appears to have gone for a toss. About 50 percent of the GVPs which were eradicated a few months ago by the municipal corporation have resurfaced again as people continue to dump the garbage at these spots.
Earlier this year, GHMC had eliminated as many as 1,116 vulnerable points in the city. Several initiatives were taken by the civic body but since last few weeks people started dumping rubbish in about 50 pc of the locations.

These facts came to light in a survey carried out on all the GVPs by Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). Initial studies revealed that there were 1,109 GVPs across 24 circles.
Through a mobile app, a real time data involving quantity of waste, type of waste, surrounding land use and reasons for prevailing situation was collected.

The survey indicated that Circles 1, 2, 11, 12, 13 and 18 performed well in elimination of GVPs. However, Circles 4A, 4B, 7, 9A, 9B, Alwal, Patencheru, Kukatpally were found to be vulnerable.
Meanwhile, GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the civic body plans to conduct awareness campaign on door-to-door garbage collection, holding meetings with sanitation workers, auto tippers and eliminating dumping of garbage at GVPs.
