

MUMBAI: Billed as the highest in 100 years, tidal waves lashed 5.5 m high in Mumbai on Friday, giving curious time to thousands of onlookers assembled at various points.
Tidal waves swept across the retaining walls at Nariman Point, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Marine Drive, Haji Ali, Worli Seaface, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu, Versova, Marve, Gorai, Bhandup and Vikhroli.
There were no reports of casualties during the high tide. The civic authorities had taken elaborate arrangements to ward off any mishap.
Suburban areas in Vasai, Bhayander, Uttan, Palghar, Boisar and Dahanu also experienced high tide.
According to the Meteorological Department here, the high tide began at 2.05 p.m..
In the past two days, waves measuring 4.85 and 5.1 m lashed Mumbai and the Konkan region respectively.
