KOLKATA: The Supreme Court granted bail to former CPM minister Susanta Ghosh on Friday, five months after he was held in connection with the skeleton recovery case.
Ghosh was named in the FIR filed nine years ago as one of the 40 accused in the killing of seven TMC workers on September 22, 2002.The skeletons were retrieved a km away from Ghosh’s residence in Benachapra, West Midnapore on June 2, 2011.
After his arrest on August 11, 2011, Ghosh had appealed multiple times for bail, but the applications were turned down. With the apex court verdict,
Ghosh as well as the party gets a relief.
Justice Altamash Kabir and Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra, however, granted the six-time MLA bail with two riders.
Ghosh should not visit the West Midnapore district except his Garbeta constituency and must have prior permission from the trial court before he ventures there. The second condition set by the Supreme Court was that Ghosh must report to the local police station, nearest to his residence, on the last Sunday of every month.
