June 13, 2016

A Russian-made MiG-27 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force on a routine training mission crashed near the Jodhpur airbase in Rajasthan during a training flight. The fighter jet was the second fighter to crash that year.  The IAF is the process of phasing out the ageing MiG-27 fighters.

Ten people, including two pilots of a chartered aircraft of the Border Security Force were killed when a plane crashed near the Delhi airport soon after the takeoff.  The Beech Super King Air B-200 developed a technical snag soon after taking off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s runway 28 at 9.37 a.m, and tried an emergency landing, which failed.

A microlight aircraft of the Indian Army crashed near the Indian Air Force headquarters of the Eastern Air Command in Meghalaya. Two army officials, including a pilot, sustained minor injuries in the incident.

A MiG-21 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed in the fields in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, with the pilot managing to eject safely. The aircraft had taken off from Srinagar airfield and was on a "routine" training sortie.

A Jaguar fighter aircraft of Indian Air Force crashed during a training sortie in Chaka area of Allahabad district and both the pilots ejected safely, in the second incident of the year. The plane crashed into an uninhabited field close to a Food Corporation of India warehouse at Chaka, about 50 km from Allahabad.

A Dornier aircraft belonging to the Indian Coast Guard crashed into the sea off the coast of Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. After a 35-day-long search operation, code named Talaash, the most exhaustive in Indian history, involving 12 scientific, defence and private agencies ended the mortal remains of the three missing crew members were found on July 13.

An Indian Air Force fighter trainer aircraft crashed in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district — 350 km from Bhubaneswar. Two pilots, who ejected out of the plane, were reported safe. Since the Hawk A-3492 crashed in a paddy field, there were no civilian casualties or loss of property.

An IAF Sukhoi- 30 fighter aircraft crashed in Assam’s Nagaon district on Tuesday. Both pilots managed to eject safely. The twin-seater aircraft, which crashed about five minutes after take-off from the IAF base at Shalnibari in Tezpur, was on a routine sortie

A Navy surveillance aircraft with three officers, including a woman, on board on went down 25 nautical miles South-West off Goa late. Commander Nikhil Kuldip Joshi, who was flying the aircraft with 4,000 flying hours to his credit, was rescued about an hour later by a fishing vessel. The body of Lt Kiran Shekhawat was recovered by the Navy’s search and rescue teams later from the wreckage of the ill-fated Dornier Aircraft, which had crashed during a night training sortie off Goa.

A Jaguar aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in an agricultural field near the Kurukshetra district of Haryana on Thursday. The pilot ejected safely from the falling fighter jet which missed a school building by a whisker and landed in a field. The aircraft had taken off from Ambala Air Force Base.

Seven IAF personnel were killed in a helicopter crash near Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) crashed at a location in Sitapur near the Uttar Pradesh capital just four minutes after takeoff, an IAF spokesperson said here. The ALH, also called Dhruv, departed from Bareilly at 4.53 pm and was on a mission to Allahabad.

An IAF MiG-21 fighter jet crashed in Anantnag in South Kashmir, killing the pilot on the spot. The jet crashed in an open field in Mudhama village on the outskirts of Bijbehara town, causing a deep crater on the ground

The India Air Force lost a newly-bought C-130J special operations plane, when it crashed about 115 km West of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border in which five crew members lost their lives, including its top notch pilots. The C-130J crash came as shock, as the plane built by US-based Lockheed Martin is considered one of the most-stable and safe cargo planes, having four Rolls Royce AE2100D3 engines. The ill-fated aircraft had taken off from Agra in Uttar Pradesh on a routine “tactical” flying training sortie, along with another C-130J.

A pilot died as a Cheetah helicopter crashed while carrying out maintenance sortie to the world’s highest battleground, near the Siachen glacier.  The helicopter was on a routine sortie to provide supply to Bhim post located at an altitude of 6,000m. According to sources, the chopper crashed 400m away from the helipad after take-off.

In a second incident within a span of 10 days, a French-built Mirage 2000 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Rajasthan, due to engine failure, prompting the grounding of the entire fleet of the aircraft. Both the pilots of the jet had bailed out in time. The fighter jet took off from Gwalior airbase in Madhya Pradesh for a routine flying sortie when it crashed approximately 60 km short of Jaipur.

A top IAF officer had a narrow escape as a French-built Mirage 2000 aircraft crashed in Madhya Pradesh on Friday. The aircraft was piloted by the Commanding Officer of the fighter Squadron, and the sortie was part of celebrations to mark 25 years of the induction of Mirage 2000 into IAF.
