NEW DELHI: In a setback to DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran, the Supreme Court on Friday set aside an order of the Madras High Court which directed the trial court to summon the union telecom secretary as a court witness in the decade-old illegal telephone exchange case against him.
A bench of Justices K V Viswanathan and Arun Palli passed the order on a plea filed by the CBI challenging the March 25 HC order. “We permit the respondent to have the option to summon the telecom secretary as a defence witness,” the bench said.
The CBI alleged that he got over 700 high-end lines installed for being used for brother Kalanithi’s Sun TV Network.
