The Jharkhand High Court on Friday quashed the state government's decision to cancel the 2024 Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination, which was scrapped in August amid protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment tests.
Justice Deepak Roshan, while hearing petitions filed by candidates who cleared the examination, set aside the cancellation notification, terming the government's decision "unfair and unjust".
The Hemant Soren-led government had cancelled the examination on August 18, citing evidence of large-scale irregularities and question paper leaks. The decision had left thousands of successful candidates uncertain about their appointments.
The candidates challenged the cancellation before the high court, arguing that they were not given an opportunity to present their case before the government took the decision.
The cancellation was part of a wider crackdown on alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The state government had decided to scrap 22 examinations conducted since 2014 by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), JSSC and outsourced agency TDPL, while ordering probes into 23 others.
