DAVANGERE: Two-wheelers are the common mode of transport in the country, mostly because of their agility. But a basic precaution one needs to take while riding them, ie to wear a helmet, is often ignored. Be it for the fear of loss of hair or sheer carelessness, riders put themselves at risk of fatal accidents by refraining from wearing a helmet.

During a brainstorming session, four engineering students of Bapuji Institute of Technology (BIET) came up with a technology to avoid such a situation. They came up with the ide of a ‘Smart Helmet’ or Armet that they decided to call it, which would have “exceptional” features.Armet, designed by them, prevents helmet-less driving, as it automatically shuts off a vehicle being used by a rider without a helmet.

It does the same when the rider is drunk. It also features location maps using GPS signals, and sends out a distress signal to pre-installed emergency numbers in case the two-wheeler is involved in an accident.Latha, Niveditha, Pooja Sharma and Priyanka of Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, BIET designed Armet.
