THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rejecting the move by general secretary Sitaram Yechury to change its political tactical line, the CPM top leadership is learnt to have decided against aligning with the congress. It could well be a pointer to the political line to be adopted by the CPM in its 22nd party congress next year. The politburo, which met in New Delhi on Monday, is learnt to have ruled out Yechury’s draft resolution and arrived at a decision that there was no need to change the political line — a stance upheld by the Kerala CPM. The central committee meet from October 14 to 15 will go through the draft policy and PB decision in this regard. “As of now, there’s no change in congress’ economic policies,” said a party state secretariat member.

Sitaram Yechury and party’s West Bengal unit were in favour of aligning with other parties including the Congress to take on BJP’s communalism. The CPM has been in the process of reviewing its political line. It is in this backdrop that a draft political resolution terming BJP the principal enemy was presented before the Polit Buro.

The last Party Congress was of the view that both BJP’s communalism and Congress’ economic policies should be opposed. The Karat faction and Kerala CPM opined though the political situation had changed, there was no need to change the party policy.
