City-zens queue up for a bite of the big apple

KOCHI: The well-heeled in the city went gaga on Friday as Apple launched its latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus. Kochi was among the three Indian cities to launch the latest Apple phone. The other two cities were Bangaluru and Delhi.

The launch coincided with the the global launch of the latest iPhone version from the US-based smartphone maker. The popular members of the Kerala Blasters football team - Mohammad Rafi, Cedric Henghart, Antonio German and  Ishfaq Ahmed - were the chief guests of the event, giving a celebratory touch to the launch.

Oberon Mall had geared up for the event from the morning and people started to pour in by six in the evening. Officials said there were bookings by  customers from September 20 itself. Close to 30 bookings were made by the people and there were continuous enquiries made by some.

There were no big bang announcements prior to the event but the Apple employees are confident about the good sales. Abdul Nihad, the sales consultant of Ivolv store of Oberon Mall said: “We are expecting  overwhelming response to the launch from the customers. Presence of Kerala Blasters members added to the zeal. The football team members are camping in the city for their third match scheduled on Sunday.”

One of the customers, Oscar Niglin, a software engineer, said: “I came early  to enquire about the iPhone. I am excited as it gives a new feature like water proof. I already have an IPhone 6. If I can afford iPhone6, I very well can afford iPhone7,” he said.

Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus feature same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display like its predecessor but Apple claims it is 25 per cent brighter and colour accurate. The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus also support wider colour gamut which should help with displaying more colours in the visible spectrum. Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus also get new A10 Fusion chipset, which is currently the fastest mobile processor in the world.
Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come with same 12MP rear camera like before but OIS is now standard on both models. Apple is also using six element lens which brings the aperture down to f/1.8, which should yield better pictures in low light.
