Steps to bypass SC order on liquor sought

Toddy shop owners and employees under the aegis of a joint trade union committee took our a protest march demanding action to overcome the Supreme Court order banning the sale of liquor within 500 m of national and state highways.

KOCHI: Toddy shop owners and employees under the aegis of a joint trade union committee took our a protest march demanding action to overcome the Supreme Court order banning the sale of liquor within 500 m of national and state highways. 


The Supreme Court  order has resulted in the closure of 1,132 toddy shops in the state and left thousands jobless.  Members of four trade unions in the state - CITU, AITUC, INTUC and BMS - took part in the protest march, which was inaugurated by CITU leader K M Sudhakaran.
