KOCHI: The unhealthy competition between various organisations is helping criminals infiltrate the Malayalam film industry, actor Devan has said.
He told Express on Tuesday these associations were issuing memberships without any stipulations. “Except for Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, intense rivalry is going on between various organisations associated with the industry.
In a bid to increase their strength, these organisations are giving memberships to anyone. This has led to criminals infiltrating the film industry,” he said. As a solution, he suggested making police verification certificate compulsory for issuing memberships.
A veteran in the south Indian film industry, Devan said it is the duty of the police to unravel the conspiracy behind the recent abduction and molestation of an actor. But he denied reports that people in the film fraternity were behind the assault.
He also hinted he is readying for a much wider role in the political landscape of the state by relaunching the Kerala People’s Party, which he floated over a decade ago.
“Political parties have lost their credibility. We need to bring back politics into parties. The Kerala People’s Party which I formed still exists but our activities are minimal owing to lack of funds. Hopefully, the party will play a significant role in the state,” he said.
