KOCHI: We often think art is something we imprint on a canvas, but for Lijith C B, an architecture student at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, art is something that comes from the artist’s imagination and not something which is observed and then put on canvas. This is what makes his acrylic portraits and digital art different from other artists.

“I was always creatively inclined from a very young age. I love doing art but had my own style,” he says. Lijith has awed many people with his artwork, be it his watercolour or acrylic works. It can be a portrait of a woman clad in a hijab or a scene of two children taking us back to our childhood memories. Not only this, he uses mediums like Brill ink and palette knife to give a perfect finishing to his artwork.

Presently, he is doing his graduation in architecture from CET. He says, “I take time over my work, because it is something I do from my own experience.”Not only this, the artist is also into scribble art where he scribbles on paper and does portraits of people. The emphasis is on facial expressions. “During my school days, I used to scribble a lot. Everything I painted was something that was related to me. One of my paintings where two children are sitting and talking is something which I drew from one of my childhood memories,” says Lijith.

Besides this, Lijith also does digital art where he uses his laptop as the canvas and a stylus as his brush. He says, “You gain more speed in digital art and it makes you more mobile. This form of art is different from an acrylic or watercolour portrait. This form of art is easier but it needs a lot of practice. It needs to be done with fine detailing and requires concentration.”
