You are the one that is endless

You are one. Why don’t you realise that you are the changeless and unbroken one that is endless? You can be seen in everybody equally. How can you ever think in terms of day and night?” Thus says Sri Dattatreya in the Avadhuta Gita. This Atman is present in everything and everywhere. Know this eternal presence. The meditator which is me is also the most supreme object of meditation too. How can this unlimited whole which is one, be broken?
You are never born, nor do you die at any point of time. At no point of time are you this body too. “All is Brahman,” say the learned, and the Vedas say that too.
You are that one supreme truth that is present without and within. You are Shiva—the auspicious one, at all times and everywhere. Then why do you move about here and there, running around deluded like a ghost?
There is no union and no separation too. There is nothing happening, because there is neither you nor myself. Even this universe does not exist. Everything, that is, is the Atman alone.
You are not anything that is composed of the five sense perceptions of hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling and touching, nor do they belong to you. You  are the supreme truth. Why do you suffer then?
Neither you nor me are the name or the form. There is neither birth nor death nor mind. There is no bondage or liberation, auspicious or inauspicious. Why then do you shed tears my dearest child?
Referring again to the mind as running hither and thither like a restless spirit, Sri Dattatreya exhorts us to perceive the one Atman which is ever present and it is possible only by being devoid of any attachments. Once the attachments are gone, the state of being is comfortable.
You are that truth which is free of change, you are the very form of the one truth which is immovable. You are neither attachment nor detachment. Why then do you have to suffer seeking objects of desire or trying to run away from them?
All the Vedas say that the atman is beyond the Gunas of Sattva, Rajas and Tamas. It is eternal and unbroken. You are that essence which has no body; know that one and be free of all doubts. Anything that has a form is false and anything that is without a form is eternal. Through the understanding of this truth, there is no possibility of coming back into this world.
The sages say that this uniform essence present in all is alone present. After giving up attachments, the chittam or the mind does not differentiate between the one and the many. Duality then ceases to exist.
