The simple and non-opulent appeal of khadi

Using unexplored techniques of handlooms on natural fibres like Khadi, designer Raghavendra Rathore has come up with his Sustainable Fashion Collection. Inspired by the rich heritage of Jodhpur, each of his works is truly a masterpiece. Talking about his collection, Rathore says, “To give impetus to khadi, we have used the fabric to create contemporary to transitional Indo-Western silhouettes. The outfits are embellished with subtle dori work, reminiscing the bygone era, and making them fit to be worn for any occasion.”

The designer has kept the focus predominantly on the simplicity of shape and form. “The collection exudes modernity with its designs while the colours are classic, organic and pure with subtle impressions of elegant detailing,” he says. The USP of these outfits is the unique texture each has. “No two khadi fabrics can ever be identical as they carry the beauty of irregularities achieved through human hands,” he adds.

A crusader of sustainable fashion, Rathore believes that the powerful trend of slow fashion (sustainable fashion) is here to stay. Elaborating further, he shares, “The idea is to encourage stainability by making customers aware of the pitfalls associated with the ever-changing fashion cycles, flagging the very notion of fast fashion and letting both consumers and manufacturers take a step back and rethink the production cycles, in the hope to securing a better future for the planet as a whole.”

Rathore strongly believes that sustainable fashion will make a huge difference in the years to come as 80 per cent of the planet’s water is contaminated by some kind of residue of microfibre and the fashion industry contributes over 35 per cent to the un-recyclable pollution.

Khadi ensembles demand a minimalistic lookKhadi demands a very classic and minimal approach when it comes to designing ensembles using this textile. The idea behind the construction and styling of the collection was to keep it light and effortless for the wearer and not try to over design it with embellishments.
