With only fame in mind, many doctors were reported to have breached the limits of medical ethics in order to enter the Guinness Book of Records.

Medical Research is an even more serious issue. Any error in conducting research on humans and animals may be disastrous. Therefore, a set of ethics is presently published by the Indian Council of Medical Research “that all medical researchers should know”. The key people who were instrumental in framing the rules, former Dy Director General Dr Vasantha Muthusamy and former Dy Director General, current Consultant, Dr Nandhini K Kumar were invited to Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital by Dr S M Balaji and a workshop was conducted on Medical, Dental Ethics and Publication.

Many more important and key people in the field were invited to present lectures and enlighten the audience. At the conclusion of the workshop, a 2 hour-long panel discussion was conducted wherein several issues were debated, clarified and a consensus reached. This has enabled the framing of rules for dental research in a clinic set up.

This program was inaugurated by two Union Ministers: Hon’ble Shree Gandhiselvan, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Hon’ble Dr. Jagatrakshakan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.

This workshop being the first one of its kind will usher a new beginning in the opening of vistas for dental research, since it will bring to light the intricacies of medical/dental research.
