If you have taken the adage ‘work hard and party harder’ too seriously and often get high on alcohol, which takes a toll on your health, worry not. There are ‘technnovative’ ways to get sober and quit drinking for good. A mobile app released earlier this year called ‘Drinking Mirror’ shows how alcohol intake can speed up the ageing process. It allows users to upload their photographs and enter their weekly boozing habits to see what they might look like in 10 years. Scary right? We list five such innovative and impactful apps that help you keep a tab on your booze and get back on the health track. Available on all kinds of operating systems from iPhone to Android, they are fun to work with and have been appreciated by both the medical and tech fraternity for its positive impact on the society.
My.Drinkaware.co.uk
This app works on iPhones; Blackberrys and is available online. The principle of My.Drinkaware is that if the user measures his or her drinking, they will naturally start cutting down. Users can simply log their drinks every day and it calculates the financial and calorific cost and tells them if they’re low, increasing or higher risk.
Bottoms up!
Bottoms up is the premier BAC and drink tracker on the Android market. How much alcohol does one drink every day, week, and month? How much do they spend on alcohol? What is the user’s Blood Alcohol Content at any given time? Bottoms Up will track all that. Interestingly, it tracks the number of drinks the user consumes.
AlcoDroid alcohol tracker
The app is an alcohol consumption tracker, drinks diary and blood alcohol content calculator. It helps its users get a better handle of what they drink and helps change their drinking habits. Optionally it also tracks costs of their drinks. The mechanism includes providing an estimate of user’s blood alcohol content (BAC) based on the drinks they’ve logged, plots their BAC development in a chart and indicates when they get below the legal limit or back to zero.
Stop Drinking Alcohol app
This interesting and ‘in your face’ app tracks the number of days the user has been sober, based on Seinfeld’s “Don’t Break The Chain” technique. They can simply add each drink to the day’s counter or let the app remind them each day to fill in the number. This is a free app and requires Android 2.2. to work.
Liquid history
The app keeps a personal record of all the alcoholic beverages users consumed and view statistics and rankings of beverage choice and style. It also helps to discover key insights into their drinking habits and share interesting charts and graphs with their Facebook friends. The app maintains real time tabs on user’s BAC and monitors their level of intoxication.
