Samsung launches Samsung S8 and S8 plus, looks to bounce back from last year's Note 7 fiasco

Samsung mobiles is looking to capture the flagship mobile phone space in 2017 with its strategic launch of the S8 and S8+ ahead of Apple's big launch later this year, After the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 flameout fiasco last year with many note devices catching fire and prompting Samsung to issue a recall, the launch of the Samsung S8 and S8+  are expected to provide a big boost.

In a glitzy event in New York today, DJ Koh the President of Mobile Communications business of Samsung mobiles unveiled the latest device in the Samsung Galaxy series. 

Here are a few of the much-anticipated features of the new devices:

1.Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the first Samsung galaxy S series phone to adopt USB Type-C.

2.The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 5.8 Inch screen with the Galaxy S8+ has a 6.2-inch screen.

3. Both the phones feature a 12 Megapixel dual pixel rear camera along with 8 MegaPixel front-facing camera.

4.The s8 and S8+ bring back IRIS eye recognition technology, which allows users to unlock their smartphones using their
eyes, besides a fingerprint scanner and facial recognition giving users many security feature options.

5.The s8 and the S8+ feature infinity displays (bezel-less screens) with a virtual on-screen home button under the screen.

6.The S8 comes with a 3000 mAh battery with the s8+ having 3500 mAh battery, promising long battery life.

7.Both phones come with an IP68(Protected from long term immersion in water up to a specified pressure) water resistance.

8.The devices come with 4GB RAM, 64 GB internal memory along with microSD card expansion option up to 256 GB.

9.The device runs Android 7.0 Noughat out of the box and features 'Bixby' a voice-based virtual assistant which looks to compete with the likes of Apple's Siri, Google Assistant and Microsoft's Cortana.

Preorders for the device are expected to start from March 30, with devices ready to ship in the United States by April 21. Prices are expected to range between $720 and $850 on US mobile carriers, according to tech website, The Verge.
