COVID-19 UPDATES | Delhi records over 100 deaths, 3,726 fresh cases of infection

The number of COVID-19 cases reported in India in a span of 24 hours dropped below 40,000 for the seventh time this month, taking the infection tally to 94.31 lakh, while the recoveries surged to 88,47,600, according to the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Monday.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 94,31,691 with 38,772 new infections, while the death toll climbed to 1,37,139 after 443 more fatalities were reported, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 88,47,600, pushing the national recovery rate to 93.81 per cent.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate declined further to 1.45 per cent. The active COVID-19 caseload remained below five lakh for the 20th consecutive day. There are 4,46,952 active cases in the country which comprise 4.74 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

  • In his letter, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla asks the Chief Secretaries to ensure compliance of advisories issued by the Home Ministry and direct officials concerned to re-inspect/re-check all hospitals/nursing homes from the point of view of fire protection and means of escape.
  • I would like to draw your attention towards occurrence of fire incidents in hospitals/nursing homes in recent past. Non-adherence of fire safety measures by authorities is a matter of concern, said Bhalla in his letter.
  • Recently six precious lives of COVID-19 patients were lost in a fire incident in ICU ward of a hospital in Rajkot and eight lives were lost in a hospital in Ahmedabad. When India is fighting against COVID-19, utmost precaution needs to be taken to avoid such incidents, he further said.

A total of 10,490 patients were under treatment,it said in a bulletin, providing data as of 8 PM on November 28. Out of the fresh cases, 131 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by 82 from Medchal Malkajgiri, 58 from Ranga Reddy and other districts.

    Arunachal records 31 cases

    At least 31 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, pushing the tally to 16,262, while one more person succumbed to the infection, raising the toll to 51, a senior official said. The deceased, a 50-year-old man from Innao village in Changlang district, was suffering from a liver disease, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

    India reported 41,810 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 93,92,920, according to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. The country reported more recoveries than new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. The total active cases reached 4,53,956 while the total recoveries climbed to 88,02,267 with 42,298 new discharges in a single day. With 496 new deaths, the toll mounted to 1,36,696.
