Tips: For the winter season, darker shades are the best bets and there’s nothing new about that. But using bold colours like fuchsia teamed with black should be used carefully. Heavy furniture should be avoided. If you still want to paint the walls, give them a twist with textured wall using sponge or 3-D paints. Wallpapers makes for a great statement and saves you the hassle of painting. Floral prints in pastel, motifs such as gold coins and brightly-coloured strips are in this season.

Tips: If you prefer paint but find it tedious, just pick one prominent wall in your living room and use bright paint colour such as amber or mustard. Go for warm colours such as violet for bedroom. Keep wall decor minimal. Pastel wallpapers are also a good option.
Mini Makeover

Tips: It’s not always necessary to give an extensive makeover to the whole house. Even a piece of vibrant furniture or vibrant cushions can do the trick. Go for colours like peach, red or fuchsia. But avoid colour clash. Fabrics like shenyl and cotton can be used for upholstery and damask fabrics can be used for curtains. Hand embroidered and Swarovski studded cushions are in this season. Use rich velvet throws in colours like wine, navy blue, electric blue and emerald green if you’ve nude coloured furniture.
Light Hearted

Tips: Mood lightings are big this season. Instead of glaring lamps, get light fixtures with dimmers to get rid of hot spots in the room. For living area and kitchen, it’s best to choose white lampshades made with organic fabrics such as linen or cotton. This will ensures that the lampshade filters artificial light, casting a flattering glow across the room. The dining area can be pepped up with oval chandeliers with contemporary design. Gold or silver accents can add element to the chandeliers. Hang it just above the dining table.

Tips: Hanging lanterns and chandeliers is the flavour of the season. Not a chandelier person? Statement candelabras are also a good idea. It can be placed at the mantle or a table. Avoid investing in huge lampshades. Go for vintage.
