Message in Red from Pakistan

Tension, gloom, and beauty co-exist on their canvas. Works of two Pakistani artists, Aisha Khalid and Imran Qureshi, are on display at Delhi’s Nature Morte Gallery. Aisha and Imran have studied miniature painting at the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan, and have used the style to explore its traditional vocabulary. Aisha’s works show how the 2014 Peshawar killings affected her. She had started working on the paintings in November 2014. Imran’s paintings, installations and videos also bear a strong link with the current events. The series was initiated in 2010, after a terrorist attack on a Lahore market. There is a lot of red, simulating blood. There are painted petals, gold grounds, and the perpetual presence of a garden signifying undying hope.
