The 27th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair, North America’s platform for global design, will map the newest frontier of what’s best and what’s next in the world of design. Here are our favourite picks.

Under the thoughtful tutelage of Jerry Helling, Bernhardt Design Studio produced another impressive collection. Standout Sang Hoon Kim’s Phenomena screen will make a big statement in an industrial loft.

Jamie Hayon’s quirky Clown lamp, from his new Fantasy Collection for Lladro, dims and brightens at the tap of its golden nose.

The portfolio of Council, a young American furniture company founded by San Fran designer Derek Chen, getsbigger and better every year. The exaggerated lines of Drake, an indoor/outdoor chair by One & Co, remind us of a duck—in a good way.

Patricia Urquiola, Spain’s answer to Philippe Starck, created a rug for Gandia Blasco, which we all coveted. The design weaves together different textures and patterns for a modern take on handicraft.

With its cool booth and consistently inventive product offerings, IKEA was voted ‘Best in Show’ for its latest PS collection, which took its inspiration from local tales, traditions and technologies. The Svara floor and table lights put funky old spools to a new use as lamp bases.

Trove celebrates spring with a collection of images and patterns that once again push the dimension of wallpaper design in beautiful and unexpected ways. Jee Levin and Randall Buck, cofounders of Trove, approach each new collection as artists to a blank canvas. Drawing influences from  architecture, film and art history to travel and nature, this new collection exhibits the distinctive qualities of Trove designs: surprising scale, unconventional colour palette, and a poetry that transforms walls into works of art.

An animated pet rock with Margaret Keane eyes, this baby seal by Paro from Japan is a therapeutic robot for use in nursing homes and hospitals. It responds to human touch and voices with loving chirps and winks.
