Why an apparel brand?
The entrepreneur in me couldn’t stop itself for long. I am as passionate about my sport as I am for the cause of helping cancer patients and survivors. An apparel brand seemed like a great idea to put everything in perspective.

What is fashion for you?
Fashion is storytelling. You need a clear, concise vision to tell stories for people to understand and be a part of it. This is what I am aiming for with my apparel brand, YWC.

What is the idea behind YWC?
Taking a leaf from my life journey, YWC is about live, dare and inspire. It will help YOUWECAN
Foundation to become a self-sustaining organisation. It’s a step towards making everyone, especially youngsters, a part of its journey.

Have you turned designer with YWC?
It is more of an emotional investment for me. It took me over two years to conceptualise and give a final shape to it. I have been involved in design process and material selection. YWC reflects my own style and taste. I will definitely wear it myself.

Is Gold Line different from the Basic Line?
Gold line (Rs 4,000-Rs 30,000) is designed and curated by designers Shantanu & Nikhil while the Basic line (Rs 1,100-Rs 4,000) seamlessly integrates everyday comfort, an athletic lifestyle and trends.

What is the brand’s USP?
YWC is ‘fashion with a conscience’. It is made in India for the world. With modern silhouettes, futuristic designs and organic fabrics, there is something for everyone.

Your name will give a boost to the brand.
My vision is to see YWC become bigger than Yuvraj Singh. Being a cancer survivor, my goal is to use my second life, my image to give back to society.

Your friends have supported the brand hugely at the launch.
Yes. I am thankful to everyone, from cricket and Bollywood fraternity, who showered me with words of encouragement. My friends Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Sushil Kumar, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Ashish Nehra, Virendra Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma and Mohd Kaif, walked the ramp at the launch in Mumbai.

What next?
Currently, YWC is available on ywcfashion.com and myntra.com. We are approaching all large-format retailers and multi-brand outlets. In the coming months, YWC will be in over 25 stores in cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat, Goa, Raipur, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Guwahati, among others

You have fought like a warrior against a disease many consider the end of the world. Your advice to those fighting cancer?
My only advice is to never give up. Our willpower is our only saviour. If we convince our mind that it is not the end, the battle is won. Since its inception in 2012, YOUWECAN Foundation has been working towards saving lives through creating awareness, encouraging regular diagnosis, early detection, prevention and funding education for surviving kids. I believe, together, you and we can.
