Slain FCI manager’s son alleges police complicity

GUWAHATI: Praveen Gautam Ram, son of slain FCI North-East zonal manager P C Ram, who was abducted by insurgent outfit ULFA last year and subsequently killed in a shootout between police and cadres of the insurgent group at Baksa in Assam, has charged the Assam Police with killing his father.

Praveen levelled this allegation against Assam Police soon after filing a fresh petition in the Gauhati High Court for review of the whole investigation process carried out by CBI.

In the affidavit, Praveen said, “We must bring out the truth and unveil the culprits, not only for the satisfaction of us family members, but also to prevent such further occurrence.” Praveen displayed photographs before the media as “evidence” of glaring loopholes in the theory given by police that Ram had lost his life in crossfire between police and ULFA militants.

“These (photographs) were provided to us by the media who had reached the scene on that fateful day,’’ he said.

He and his lawyer, Nekibur Zaman, also held out the ballistic report given out by the Directorate of Forensic Science, Guwahati, which contradicted the very get-up of the crime scene (indicative of the fact that the get-up found was different from the actual one).

Praveen claimed that he was in possession of more “incriminating” evidence that made the story very clear and simple,” said Praveen. He alleged the police team killed his father in cold blood following clear-cut orders and plans. He also alleged that FCI general manager D Hara Prasad played his part in the abduction of his father.
