NEW DELHI: Taking a big stride forward in CWG scam probe, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday raided 11 places in and around Delhi, including residences of Games Organising Committee Secretary General Lalit Bhanot, Director General V K Verma and their associates.

The probe agency has registered cases against the two close aides of CWG chief Suresh Kalmadi under IPC sections dealing with criminal conspiracy and cheating. CBI sources alleged that the accused officials abused their position and entered into criminal pacts with a Swiss firm and others to cheat the Indian government in awarding contract to the company for acquiring a TSR (timing, scoring and result) system at exorbitant rates of `107 crore, thus causing huge loss.

The sources claimed the progress in the case so far has made it imperative for the agency to tighten noose on Kalmadi. “If power centres don’t intervene, his arrest is  only a question of time.”

Keeping a straight face, Bhanot said he cooperated with the CBI. “We are giving them whatever file they are asking for. I hide nothing.”

This is the third case against the officials. Earlier, on November 15, two other Kalmadi aides — T S Darbari and Sanjay Mahendroo — were arrested for alleged financial irregularities in organising the October 3-14 Games. Later, sacked OC treasurer M Jayachandran too was booked.
